  13. Travel aboard a timecar back to the
  14. 1000 year old Viking City of Yorvik,
  15. through the bustling market, dark
  16. smoky houses and busy wharfside.
  17. Experience a moment of York's history
  18. recreated using archaeological
  19. evidence and displayed on it's
  20. original site, complete with the
  21. sounds and smells of the Viking age.

  23. The Jorvik Viking Centre was built
  24. following the success of a five-year
  25. excavation project which took place
  26. on the world famous Coppergate site.
  27. The settlement which was excavated
  28. was remarkably well preserved by the
  29. surrounding water-logged soil and
  30. provided valuable information on the
  31. Viking city of Jorvik. Hundreds of
  32. artefacts discovered during the dig
  33. can now be viewed in the Skipper
  34. Gallery within the centre.

  36. The centre has enjoyed over 10
  37. million visitors in it's 12 years
  38. since construction, and is the most
  39. popular visitor attraction of it's
  40. kind outside London.

  42. Artefacts and finds in the gallery
  43. are being constantly updated as
  44. technology moves forward. The latest
  45. figures are created using real Viking
  46. skulls laser scanned then sculpted to
  47. produce a real ` face from the
  48. past`. Authentic Viking costumed
  49. characters can also be found as you
  50. journey through the centre in your
  51. timecar.
